Sony’s highly anticipated game will now release on June 19th, 2020.
After stating earlier this month that The Last of Us Part II was delayed indefinitely, Sony has announced a release date for the game. Posted on the official PlayStation.Blog, The Last of Us Part II will now release on June 19th, 2020. Additionally, it was reported that Ghost of Tsushima has been pushed back. Originally set to release on June 26th, Ghost of Tsushima is now scheduled to release on July 17th, 2020. It’s been a sudden change of events regarding the upcoming AAA game, leaving many fans to wonder what changed so quickly.
Initially, it was announced that The Last of Us Part II would be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many fans speculated that this wasn’t the only reason for the delay. Since we’re approaching the release of the PS5, speculation arose that it would be released alongside the new console. That may still happen. However, it appears that a leak revealing significant events in the game was posted on the internet this past weekend. It’s assumed that disgruntled Naughty Dog employees are behind the leak, leading Naughty Dog to release this statement:

With the sudden announcement of a release date for the game, it seems as though Sony is in full damage control mode. It hasn’t even been a month since announcing the game was delayed indefinitely. Now, on the first business day after the leak, we have one – right on time to save the day. It definitely makes you wonder if the delay wasn’t only due to COVID-19. I guess we won’t find out anytime soon.
The leaked information is still on the internet, and, if you want to, you can see it here. The leak contains spoilers that may impact your interest in the game. Therefore, please don’t spoil the game for others. View at your own discretion.
